St. Arnold of Soissons - Pocket Saints
About St Arnold of Soissons Pocket Saint
St. Arnold of Soissons was a soldier, hermit, then abbot at a Benedictine Abbey in France. After trying to refuse the role of abbot, he was brought back by a wolf. He later became the bishop of Soissons. Though he was presented with many positions of honor, he wished to remain private and did not like the honor. Due to water being contaminated, St. Arnold brewed beer and encouraged all to drink it instead of water as a safer alternative. In one miracle, he saved the people of his church who had fallen ill by having them consume his beer instead of water. St. Arnold is the patron saint of beer, brewers, hop-pickers, and beer brewing.
